Jane was the youngest child of Angus and Elizabeth, born shortly before they left Scotland. The information from the Register of Births in the Clyne Paris register has the following information: Date: 17 March 1830 The recorder for Clyne Parish had resorted to a chart to record the information. Jane's mother, Elizabeth, died when Jane was ten years old and her father, Angus, died when Jane was fourteen years old. There is no information available for Jane until 1882. In the Fall River Directories for 1882 Jane was living at 56 Fourth, the same address as her sister and brother-in-law Thomas and Ann Johnston. Jane married at age 56 to Joseph C. Westgate on May 26, 1885. Joseph was a widower who listed his occupation as Merchant. He and his son, Joseph Oscar Westgate had a business called J. C. Westgate and Son. However, the younger Westgate died 13 Dec 1880 at age 36 years, so Joseph was left to run the business himself. His son's widow, Jane A., and children lived at the same address as Joseph and later as Joseph and Jane Murray. Jane was left a widow on the 28 March 1888, less than 3 years after her marriage. No wonder members of the family could not remember who she married. Jane M., widow of Joseph C. and Jane A., widow of J. Oscar lived in the same house until the death of Jane Murray Westgate on the 24 March 1891. |
