Annie McPherson was born 1 Feb 1843.to parents Elizabeth Anderson Murray and Alexander McPherson. She lived in the Mount Thom area with her family at least until 1881 where she was listed on the census with her father and brother, Johnston. Her mother had died in 1879. Annie was married on the 25 June 1889 to Rev. Angus MacKenzie. It is not known where this marriage took place. There is no record for it in the Nova Scotia government marriage index. Perhaps she had left home and was in the U. S. Annie was 46 years old when she married and Angus was about 52 years old. There is no record of them having children. Angus was a Presbyterian Minister. At the time of his death he was in Ridgefield in the State of Washington (a village just north of Vancouver, Washington). He died on January 7th, 1911. After her husband's death, Annie went to Stettler, Alberta to live with her widowed sister, Jessie McPherson Sutherland. They both lived with Jessie's son-in-law in Bashaw, Alberta at the time of Annie's death 22nd Oct 1918. Annie was buried in the Ridgefield, Washington cemetery beside her husband. The cemetery is on a hill with a beautiful view, including Mount St. Helens and the Columbia River. (If you are ever at that graveyard and take a picture of Mount St. Helens remember to use a haze filter or the mountain will not show up.) The tombstone inscriptions on separate monuments follow: Annie Rev. Angus Next to the tombstones of Angus and Annie is a tombstone for Murdoch MacKenzie, died Apr 5, 1892 aged 45 years. Was this a younger brother of Angus? He was seventeen years younger, so he probably wasn't a son to Angus from a previous marriage. |
