Dry-fly fishing is the preferred method and be prepared to have strikes all day. Over 100 strikes a day is normal; the rest is up to you. For a change of pace and to concentrate on large fish, we recommend our clients rig up two rods - one dry fly rig and one streamer outfit to best cover the river.

If God created a fish for dry fly fishing, it would be the cutthroat trout. At Trusty Creek, we are smack dab in the middle of the best cutty country on Earth. Our Westslope Cutthroat are renowned for their size, strength, numbers and beauty.

We drift fish from inflatable rafts while our clients cast dries on the best stretches of catch-and-release rivers in Canada. Our drifts start right from the lodge and it's not uncommon to have four or five fish caught while the guide prepares your raft for the day's adventure. Once on the boat, we drift through a myriad of water types on the blue-ribbon Bull River, from long, straight stretches with nicknames like "Riser's Run" and "Lone Pine Hole" to surging canyon water where house-sized boulders hide the river's largest trout. Cutthroats up 20 inches are common, with the odd larger trout.

Abundant hatches, especially in the evenings, challenge even the most proficient fly fisher as the river's largest fish sip on the evening's menu.

The lower portion of the river offers a totally different experience. Here, the Bull offers an abundance of fish species. Giant Bulls to 15-plus pounds inhabit the deep pools and rocky runs. We have developed awesome streamer patterns to take these out-sized char, and recommend 30-pound shock tippets for these powerful predators. Catching a trout as long as your leg on a fly rod from a drift boat is an experience you won't forget.

Rainbows and Cutthroats over 20 inches also inhabit these waters, as well as an annual late summer-fall Kokannee Salmon run that attracts countless bald eages and ospreys for your viewing pleasure. Wildlife is abundant along the river and you can count on seeing any number of western species of wildlife from the boat.

If small stream fishing is of interest, countless miles of small creek fishing is available. It's great for the beginning fly fisher or veteran who loves the intimacy of a small creek.

A mere 45 minutes away, the world renowned Elk River is available to drift. We often fish this river on the way back to civilization as a wind up trip to your fly fishing vacation.

Alberta

Just two hours away is southwestern Alberta, home of the fabled Bow and Crowsnest Rivers. Other lesser-known but blue-ribbon streams like the Oldman and Castle Rivers are close as well.

It's an ideal addition to a week-long vacation, the best of Western Canada. One-day trips to week-long packages are available and we fish the best waters the area has to offer.
