Welcome to to Canfinancial, a non-commercial site promoting financial education for Canadian Do-It-Yourself (DIY) investors. Read Shakespeare's Primer for articles on Canadian investing and finance. Updated articles on some of these subjects, written primarily by the same author, can be found in the links to the right .
"Shakespeare's Primer" was written by me, "Shakespeare", several years ago to aid Canadian Do-It-Yourself (DIY) investors. Although the fundamental principles remain sound, it has not been updated for some years. It is available in the original html format, and is still relevant for many investors. MS Word and pdf versions designed for printing and an e-readable epub version of the MS Word version are also available. However, since most of my writing has lately been devoted elsewhere, I have decided to create this site with links to several revised and updated articles.
FAQs section added and updated - July/August 2013
Revision to new format - December 2012
Initial construction - October/November 2012
Most people are not cut out to be Do-It-Yourself (DIY) investors. Although the concepts involved are not always difficult, in practice our emotional biases can and do interfere with investment performance. If you are one of the few that has the internal discipline to manage his or her own investments, congratulations - the links on this site should help you in your goals. But if you do not have that discipline - and most don't - you would very likely be better off in the long run using a qualified financial advisor, either directly or via a suitable (and low-cost) mutual fund.
