The Cox House

The Cox House was situated five miles west of town, on the Mount View Ranch. This ranch was deeded to Mr. Arthur E. Cox as his payment for his part in the Pincher Creek Home Guard during the North West Rebellion. Mr. Cox was the first school teacher in the Pincher Creek district and in 1897, after farming for six years, he became the first land agent as well.

Mr. Cox built this house in Oct 1887 before his marriage to Mary Willock. It was the first frame house built out of the creek valley. Originally, the house only contained four rooms, but after it was moved several years later, four more rooms were added, creating the split level effect. The Cox House housed the family including eight daughters and three sons. The house was used by the family until 1970.

Currently, many original artifacts from the Cox family are on display in the house including front parlor furniture, a wood burning stove, and the clothing worn by the family.
