Welcome toKootenai Brown Pioneer VillageIn Pincher Creek, Alberta, Canada |
This stout log barn was moved to the village from a location that is now under the waters of the Oldman Dam reservoir. The Doukhobors came to this area in 1915, after fleeing religious persecution in Russia.
On the second floor of the barn you will find farming tools and equipment, including cream separators and horse tack. There is also a collection of household tools of drudgery such as hand powered washers, butter churns and other muscle building equipment. You will also find antique buggies including one which was used by Isabella Brown, Kootenai's second wife.

The weekly bathing ritual was an important part of Doukhobor life. It was built in 1940, and used for many baths and saunas when cold water was poured on the hot rocks.
