The standards for the Miniature Hereford confirmation have been set through many years of strict culling to get the Miniature Hereford you see today.
Slight variations from breeder to breeder may occur but with basically the same idea in mind; to produce a feed efficient, highly fertile, beef producing animal.
The Miniature Hereford should look like a typical Hereford from afar but as you get closer,
it should have shorter legs with a long, thick, deep bodied muscular frame with the typical
Hereford color and white markings.
The main focus in the ideal conformation of the Miniature Herefords can be summed up by the following characteristics:
- Small, broad head in proportion to body
- Short neck
- Smooth shoulder set well in
- Depth of body
- Straight sturdy legs with good feet
- Shortness of leg from knee to hoof
- Length of leg from knee to hip
- Long hip and loin
- Heavy muscling and thickness of the hind quarters
- Sufficient bone to support muscle attachments and size of animal
- Well developed visible reproductive organs
- Proper Hereford markings and coloring
Ideal conformation of the Miniature Hereford is our goal so that they are producing predictable
genetics that are passed on to their offspring. One may breed to enhance a certain
characteristic to improve it but, by doing so, we try not to lose the necessary characteristics
for sound reproduction and continue to maintain the physical traits of the ideal conformation.
