In the 1970's, through a line breeding program using the top seven Hereford bloodlines from the early 20th Century, the Miniature Hereford was developed.
Taking the best traits of these ancestors and breeding down the size to what it is today. Improving on conformation and along the way developing an extremely efficient beef animal.

In 1992, Canada saw its first Miniature Herefords come into Canada. From that time on, Alberta became one of the largest breeders and suppliers of high quality Miniature Herefords, here and abroad. Through strict culling practices, Alberta breeders have produced some of the finest examples of Miniature Herefords in their breeding stocks today. At Willow Ridge Miniature Herefords, we are continuing this practice to produce the finest bovines available.

All the original bloodlines were checked for the dwarfism gene, and all tested negative so that we can be sure that they are free of the dwarfism gene. From that time on to today, the Miniature Hereford continues to gain in popularity and the quality of bovine has increased.
