“LOOK ON YONDER WALL: BILL DOWEY AND
THE BLUES DEVILS”
Calgary-based bluesman Bill Dowey has done it again with this
hard-hitting album of classic blues tunes that embody an extraordinary
assortment of styles. Recorded live at The King Edward Hotel on
June 10th & 11th, 2004, "Look on Yonder Wall" was produced by
esteemed Canadian roots producer and artist Tim Williams, and
recorded and mixed by Dave Horrocks. The recording captures the
sound of Bill and the Devils in all their raw, bare bones glory
as well as the vibe of the legend-heavy King Eddy Hotel.
"Look on Yonder Wall" is one of 11 songs by Bill
Dowey and The Blues Devils that will be unveiled on a full-length
CD over two nights on Friday, October, 22nd & Saturday, October
23rd 2004 as part of Ruby Moon's "Wee Hrs" series, devoted to
live recordings of Alberta artists.
On the single "Look on Yonder Wall" is a version
of the Albert Kings’ time-honoured "Born Under A Bad Sign", also
recorded at the Eddy sessions. It features the beautiful, raw
slide-guitar that Bill does so well, with Dowey also on keyboards,
Paul Finn on guitar, Richard Kowalewski on bass, new comer Dylan
MacDonald from Nova Scotia on harmonica and Brad Carter on drums.
The album was recorded near the end of Dowey’s
ten-year stint as the beloved leader of the King Eddy house band
captures the best of those dark, smoke-filled blues that Bill
does so well and the club has become famous for.
Bill Dowey and the Blues Devils are the real deal.
Blues fans across Canada will finally have the opportunity to
discover the power of Dowey’s heartfelt voice, manic keyboards
and scorching slide guitar. The “check-your-knife-at-the-door”
Eddy fans will relish this recording that captures the last stand
of the King Edward hotel. It’s the end of the era; and this album
is a piece of history. For interviews please call: Shannon Anderson

On Saturday August 21, 2004 we successfully auctioned
the original "Thanks For the Memories" commemorative plaque. We
raised $650 on the print with all proceeds going to the staff
and families of the King Edward Hotel who suddenly without notice
found themselves without a job when the City ordered the 99 year
old building condemned and unsafe for Human Habitation.
We have now decided to print a limited numbers of
the beautiful plaque for those of you who also loved and celebrated
the King Edward Hotel.
