The shorebird puppies turned one year old on April 24th. Here are some photos and news...... We'll add more later....
Blazingstar Black Stilt (#9)
Here is Harry. We can't help noticing that he is wet or near water in almost all the photos we see of him! His owners write....

"We can't believe he is almost a year old. We call him Sir Harold of Monarch when he is being serious and Handsome Harry when he is loving and Hair Ball when he is a goof. Harry is our newspaper retriever and shoe retriever. After a morning walk which is both on and off leash he has his morning apple pieces and his favorite bananas. The he moves on to bath time, he is a bath tub supervisor. He also likes to watch the dogs, cats and horses on TV. He is King Harold in the middle of the night because he keeps watch over the kingdom and when everyone is sound asleep he sneaks up on the corner of the bed. We are very happy with our Handsome Harry. Thank you so much for picking us to raise him. This next year we are looking forward to more training."

Blazingstar Brown Ruff (#10)
Here is Indy. Indy is taking agility lessons and the instructor reports that he is a "total star"!  His field training is coming along really well too.

Blazingstar Black Plover (#3)
Here is Macleod, looking as handsome as ever. He is coming to visit and get his ears trimmed soon!

His owners say that he looks "uncharacteristically serious" in the photo on the left! On the right, Macleod learns to retrieve ducks.

We think Macleod looks quite a bit like his father, Karo.

Blazingstar Brown Curlew (#5)
Kitty, with her pal Viggo (left). Kitty just got back from an adventure to the US specialty show. She is very lucky to have her very own ponds to swim and train in.

on the right, she looks very much like Tally.

Karen writes "I do have to laugh at how much like Tally she seems to be--and what is with the blowing bubbles in the water thing? Dillon and Kitty both do it and now I read on your website that some of their littermates do it? She loves to stick her silly head underwater and blow bubbles or bite at weeds on the bottom. Now I just need to know who else sticks their head between their human's knees for a belly rub and a butt scratch (with the human standing, of course!)"
Blazingstar Brown Dunlin (#2)
Shelagh wrote us this lovely description of Dooley:

"Everywhere we go people stop us to ask what kind of dog Dooley is or whether he is a flat-coat. Nobody has ever seen a brown one before. Everyone comments about what a gorgeous dog he is!! However, I haven't had anyone comment on how well behaved he is. He is still quite the wild man. Sometimes when he is crashing through the forest and leaping off logs with wild abandon, Dave and I just close our eyes and cringe, waiting for scraped leg or gaping wound, but so far (knock on wood) he just bounds along, without mishaps, happier than what is probably legal."

Blazingstar Brown Surfbird (#8)
The Michigan puppy, Dillon, is learning about fieldwork and shows. He has had some nice wins, with two best puppies in breed and he made the final cut in his class at the US specialty show. He also passed his CERF and gonioscopy eye exams at the show.

Blazingstar Brown Willet (#7)
Here is Begbie, once known as "the littlest guy". Begbie is enjoying life with his family in Nelson, B.C. Kim writes:

Begbie is developing into a very lovely dog in every respect. He is a great playmate for Tilley and the kids and is attentive in the field. He loves to go on hikes and with Tilley's help he has come to appreciate the pastime of squirrel chasing. He has formed a healthy respect for Hallie the family cat and knows to keep his distance at all times. He has learned sit, stay, stand, come and down and recently learned 'shake a paw' although the purpose of this last one still eludes him. Begbie loves direct contact and given the opportunity will plaster himself against us as soon as we sit down. His favorite time of day is bedtime story time when he is allowed to hop up on the kid's bed and stretch out and enjoy the bedtime story. He loves the water and is starting to venture out past his knees on occasion.

Note from Liz and Andy: In this photo, Begbie reminds us very much of Puck, who is their "uncle" (a son of Julia and half-brother to Karo).

Blazingstar Black Turnstone (#6)
And then there is Tala, who lives in Calgary. As you can see from the photo, she has inherited her mother's habit of carrying around VERY BIG STICKS. She is a very adept swimmer and loves every aspect of water.
Adrienne describes Tala at one year old:

"Tala, the little squirt of the litter, has a Big personality! Here's a few of her favourite things: loves chasing anything that moves (birds, leaves, garbage), favourite game is "hide and go seek", best friend is Skeeter the cat (cleans his ears daily), loves to gives kisses and offers a paw too, carries the biggest log at the park, loves rolling (in piles of dirt, leaves, cow dung, dead birds, dead fish, grass - all the better if she's wet), likes to bark at animals on TV, and has a fascination with blowing bubbles in her water dish or in the river. Quirks - Tala is quite selective about food, but getting better."

Blazingstar Brown Whimbrel (#4)
Here is Tima, the puppy that stayed with us. As you can see here, she is enjoying being back in the water again and doing some field training. She is going to spend her birthday at a dog show. Sorry Tima!

Inside, Tima loves to snuggle with us and is an easygoing puppy. Outside, she does everything at warp speed. When we call her to us on walks, we risk being knocked over when she arrives. She likes to use people and other dogs as emergency brakes!
