Sad news...we were expecting a litter from Lupine and Begbie this month, but something went wrong and the puppies died during the last week of gestation. They were removed by C-section. The good news is that Lupine is recovering well and she will be alright.

Huxley turned 8 years old today. He is a happy, healthy dog, that still acts like a puppy and doesn't show his age at all!

Annie (Blazingstar Beaufort CD JH CGC) got her 2nd CDX leg, also placing 3rd in the class. In the show ring, Annie was Best of Winners and Best of Opposite for another championship point. Well done Annie and Katy! In other news from Songdog kennel in Indiana, Gusty (UH HRCH Songdog’s Red Sky in Morning CDX SH WCX CGC) was bred to Wally (Blazingstar Snow Bunting) last week. We look forward to hearing about this exciting litter in the future!

Liz and Michele (Teva's owner) took four dogs to Oregon for the Flat-coated Retriever Society of America's Specialty Show. We still don't really believe just how well we did, but we came home with an embarrassment of ribbons and trophies. Tinbie won the Bred-by Exhibitor class. Begbie also won his class. Tinbie went on to win Winners Dog. Pipit won her class, Teva placed second in the same class and then much to our surprise, Pipit went on to win Winners Female. Both Tinbie and Pipit then competed alongside many gorgeous champion dogs in the best of breed competition. Much to our complete amazement, Pipit won Best of Breed. We are still in shock! Thank-you to breeder-judge Ms. Charlie Stewart-Fippin for these awards.

Thank-you also to all the people who clapped, hollared and cheered us on in the ring - wow! And thank-you also to everyone that has phoned and e-mailed congratulations. As usual, the best part about the specialty was spending time with new and old friends and their flat-coated retrievers! We have been very busy after the show and do not have many photos of the event, but will update our website as soon as we can.

A break on the trip home - time to run, swim and play in the Columbia River!

Roekkr was entered in his first obedience trials, with his owner, Linda, in Thunder Bay. He passed the Pre-Novice class all four times! He also passed the Canine Good Neighbour test (CGN). Roekkr is now Ch Blazingstar Longspur at Labrys Am/Can WC PCD CGN. Congratulations to Roekkr, Linda and Joey!

Liz drove to BC to pick up Begbie (Blazingstar Brown Willet). He is staying with us for a few weeks - first to be bred to Lupine and then to go to the FCRSA Specialty show in Oregon. We are looking forward to spending time with Begbie!

Linda sent us this photo of Roekkr and his toys. The duck is same one that he left here with at 12 weeks old!!

We took all five dogs to our vet for annual check-ups and to get titers drawn to check for immunity to parvovirus and distemper. For the last 7 years we have elected to check titers rather than re-vaccinate. Tally, Lupine, Pipit and Tinbie have not been vaccinated for parvo or distemper since their final puppy vaccination at 16 weeks, yet they all continue to have adequate immunity to both diseases (Tally is now almost 7 years old). Huxley had his last vaccine at 18 months old and he also continues to have adequate immunity.

Liz took Lupine to Calgary to compete in Open obedience. Lupine did two beautiful performances, winning her class both times with scores of 196.5 and 197!

Tinbie showed in conformation on the Friday, winning Best of Breed.

Lupine's ribbons were almost as big as she is!
