- Special Interest: Pain Relief
A remarkable, gentle muscle manipulation technique from Australia called Bowen Therapy, is a special interest of Dr. Lofting's. The technique addresses musculoskeletal pain from overuse or injury (including sports injuries) and pain that has persisted for months or years. Also, conditions such as angina, asthma, bedwetting, incontinence, hay fever, TMJ problems, scoliosis, migraines and many others respond to Bowen therapy.

Background
The Bowen Technique was developed by the late Tom Bowen in Australia. Tom Bowen (1916-1982) devoted a lifetime, in Geelong, Austrialia, to developing this gentle and innovative approach to bringing the body's own healing abilities into action. It is a unique system that has amazed therapists of all disciplines. Gentle moves over the fascia of the muscles and tendons stimulate energy flow and empower the body's own resources to heal itself.

Tom Bowen developed a whole healing system, but never documented how. When Dr Oswald and Mrs Elaine Rentsch met Tom in 1974, Tom was treating more than 13,000 patients a year and rarely more than two sessions per person. For two and a half years before Tom died in 1982, the Rentsch's studied under Tom and observed and documented his technique. This work was subsequently verified by Mr Bowen and his assistant, Mrs Rene Horwood, as a true representation of the original technique. The Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia was founded in 1987 naming the technique BOWTECH - The Bowen Technique.

Ossie (as he is known) and Elaine Rentsch have been teaching the Technique full time in Australia, New Zealand, North America, the United Kingdom and European Community since 1990. Ten thousand people have now taken the Basic Course and there are seventy instructors across the world accredited by the Academy.

The Bowen Technique is accredited by The Bowen Association affiliated by the Bowen Therapy Academy of Australia. The Bowen Association is a member of the British Complementary Medical Association.
