• Arkham Asylum Definitely the scariest rendition. Don't read alone in the middle of a stormy night.
• Batman: Batgirl Batgirl's first encounter with the Joker
• Batman: Haunted Knight A collection of Batman stories, the Joker has a small part in one of them.
• The Joker (1997) DC published an "tangent" Joker comic in which they simply took the name and created a new character around it. A little heavy, but just zany enough to qualify.
• The Greatest Joker Stories Ever Told Rather than shell out $150,000 to read Batman #1, try reading this compilation of early Joker stories.
