Cool Stunt #2

You need a complete deck of cards for this next stunt. Please make sure that it is a complete deck of 52 cards with the Jokers removed. Go get the deck and bring it back before we go on. It's OK, I'll wait right here.

Have the deck? Kewl. Let's start.

First of all, shuffle the deck. Mix it really good. When you are done, hold the deck in your hand, face up. Sort it into two face-up piles. One pile will have all the eights, nines, tens, and jacks. The other pile will have all the other cards.

Now hold the smaller packet face up. It is pretty obvious that even I know how many cards are in that packet at the moment so we are going to change that right now. Look at the numerical value of the card on top of the tabled pile. Deal that many cards (Aces count as ONE, Kings count as THIRTEEN, Queens count as TWELVE) from the packet in your hands onto the tabled pile. Again, make sure that you look at the value of the card on the TABLED pile and then deal that number of cards from the packet in your hands onto the tabled cards.

The card that is now facing you on top of the packet you hold in your hands will be your selection, so please concentrate on it. Turn the packet in your hands face down and also turn the tabled pile face down. Are you done yet? Good.

Now seeing that we have used just eights, nines, tens and jacks in the packet you have in your hands, I want you to spell the names of these cards and I'll tell you how to do that. I want you to slowly spell the word E-I-G-H-T aloud, while transferring one card from the top of the packet you are holding to the bottom of the packet for each letter of the word you are spelling. Okay? Now use the same technique for spelling the words N-I-N-E,   T-E-N,   J-A-C-K.

Are you done? Now obviously there is no way that I could possibly know how many cards are in your packet or even know where your "card" (remember the one you looked at that I asked you to remember) is located in that packet either. I am now going to try to find it. Now this particular stunt was developed in Australia, the "Land from Down Under" so I am going to teach you how to do the "australian Down/Under Deal.

Deal the top card from the packet in your hands down onto the tabled pile, then put the next card underneath your packet. Deal the next card onto the tabled pile, then put the next card underneath your packet. Deal the next card down, and the one after that under. Continue this Down/Under dealing pattern until you have just one card left in your hands.

Have you just one card left? Good. What was the name of your selection? Please turn over the card in your hands. I know it was your card.
