The World Health Organization of the United Nations estimates that fully 80% of the world's population uses Herbal Medicine to some degree or another as their primary health care.
| 2) Is it true that positive results from herbal or alternative medicine is primarily a result of the placebo effect? |
Nothing can be further from the truth. In fact, many pharmaceutical medicines have been derived from plant sources. Examples of this would be Aspirin, Vincristine, Penicillin, Taxol and Sudafed to name but a few. It has been estimated that over 30 percent of pharmaceutical drugs in current use had their origins in botanical medicine. This faulty perception is one of the major reasons why this book has been written.

3) Is it true that research that has been done on plants is not very rigorous?
While some of the early research was observational, most of the more recent research is double blind and is performed under the highest scientific scrutiny. In order to be published in almost any peer reviewed scientific research periodical, which is where much of this books information is derived, the research protocols are subjected to intense observation before it is accepted for publication.

| 4) Is it true that herbs cannot cause you harm because they are natural? |
As you will discover, medicinal herbs have therapeutic properties and as such should be treated with the same respect accorded to any other medicine or drug. In many cases they are much safer to use than their pharmaceutical counterparts; however, they should not be used with impunity as some do have toxic levels or contraindications that is discussed in the book. For this reason, it is important for every person that wishes to use herbal medicine as a preventative measure to have a copy of this book, or one like it, to ensure safe and proper use of the correct herb.
