Running The Marathon ...

I’m excited to announce we are once again selling the premier sled deck in the industry.  Marathon Marine has come on board.  If you need the staple in sled deck technology, then give us a call.  Let a Marathon deck do the work for you.  We are stocking in Milo and Taber with new ‘08 models!  Check out our “Garage Sale” page for year-end clearance prices.

Summits Are Our Business ...

It’s no secret that the little shop on the prairie is home to some of the best set-up Summits in the Calgary corridor.  We ride the product,. we develop the product and we stand behind the product.  While other dealers were either ignoring the ‘07 Summit clutch issues or selling you a fix, we were working with Ski-Doo on an answer and alleviating the problem ‘til parts could arrive, all at no cost to you.  Our dealership has also worked with Ski-Doo Engineering and Marketing to develop the new XP platform these past 3 years and have a good feel on what our customers want to compliment this great innovation for the mountain segment.  If you are looking to make the next step in mountain performance, check out the new 2009 Rev XP pricing and features at our dealership.

2010  And Beyond

Ski-Doo recently stretched the technology window again with the introduction of the new E-tec Rotax 600 engine.  It’s no secret that 2010 is the next big milestone year for emission compliance by the 4 major snowmobile manufacturers.  With this new technology, We will set the benchmark that other brands must follow, including the 4 stroke segment.  This new engine burns 78% less fuel than the Polaris 600 CF1 and 92% less than Arctic Cat’s 600 EFI system.  It uses half the oil of competitive brands and offers a 3 year spark plug warranty which is unheard of on a two stroke engine.  This new battery-less direct injection technology comes from BRP’s industry standard outboard FICHT/Evenrude division that has won numerous awards for emission compliance and fuel economy.  If you had any doubts about Rotax’s leadership position in two stroke technology and commitment to a “lighter is better” riding platform, then it’s time to re-evaluate your resolve as an intelligent human being.  This is big stuff and believe me, the other 3 guys are taking notice.

Down On Your Dealer?

It’s no secret it’s been a frustrating year for not only the consumer, but the dealer and the manufacturer as well.  Nobody is happy about all the first year glitches that have accompanied the new XP platform.  Funny thing is, the chassis has been a winner, but a couple design quirks and a few supplier issues have really put a damper on what should have been a homerun hit this season.  Dealer-consumer issues have cropped up because of high expectations by today’s buyer.  Remember that as a dealer, we did not design and build the product, but only represent the manufacturer by selling and servicing the product.  Lack of parts supply when problems crop up create grief as well as everyone wants the fix now and wants priority status in the line-up.  We’ve had customers say we were witholding parts for select customers and playing god on who got fixed up first.  This doesn’t happen; but the guy who makes an appointment, meets his appointment and makes the drive will definitely get fixed ahead of the guy that wants parts saved and will be down in a week or so.  Obviously, when there is a common problem with a large number of units, we need to be as efficient as possible with our shop to deal with the volume.  When you have a year like this and last year, what usually happens is disgruntled customers start shopping around at other dealers if they have felt they haven’t received the attention they feel they deserve.  The Gold Star customers (and every dealer has a list) realize alot of the problems happening are out of our control and don’t pressure their dealer, but work with him to resolve it.  Our dealership is very fortunate as the majority of the clones are intelligent riders who understand all the nuisances of the sport and deal with it in a mature, responsible manner.  Being that, there will be customers leaving our flock this year and customers from dealer B, C and D leaving theirs as well.  Some will come to us, some will go to dealer B or some may change brands.  Such is the nature of today’s buyer.  Just remember that most dealers do care about their customers and do the best they can to keep them happy, but realize that there are some consumers that aren’t team players and are very hard to keep happy, no matter how hard you try.  Tears usually aren’t shed when this happens as they take valuable time away from the dealers good customers.  Most of you clones know who you are, so pat yourself on the back.  You deserve it!

Got Boost?

Already we have received some calls about the all new 1200 cc performance 4 Stroke Rotax recently released by ‘Doo.  Men with vision are already waiting for a long track version XP that will be Turbo friendly for the high end testosterone crowd.  We hear that noted turbo manufacturers are already working on an application for this motor.  You didn’t think the marketing guru’s @ BRP were going to just let Yamaha have that market, did you?  A 300 HP, 50 pound lighter sled than a decked out and boosted Nytro ... very ‘Doo able indeed!

What’s New From Doo ... After 50 Years!

Tampa was sunny and warm this year and so were the festivities as Ski-Doo celebrated 50 years of innovation at the most successful Cub Ski-Doo to date.  Dealers were treated to a great evening of entertainment the first night as video heritage of J.A. Bombardier’s foray into a new market was followed all the way to today’s present date.  Team Red Bull riders performed backflips and amazing freestyle tricks on Rev XP’s, much to the crowd’s delight.

Day two saw a more serious tone as BRP executives candidly answered questions on first year concerns about the product and came clean on an action plan to bring back the reliability that has always gone hand-in-hand with BRP product.  As dealers, we recognize that when a company pushes the envelope on technology, that sometimes problems crop up and alot of the times it is supplier related and not design related.  The important thing is nothing is serious enough that it cannot be fixed and 2009 should be the year we all wanted; innovation and reliability!

Summit 2009, What’s New?

New colors, new engines, more options.  The Summit X’s in 146, 154 and 163 are offered in 2 new colors being ELECTRIC BLUE and White or JET BLACK and royal blue.  No new changes beyond that.

Add an all new 600 E-TEC fuel injected 422 lb. X package XP Summit in JET BLACK and royal blue.  This sled will be well received as the “Next Big Thing”.  Don’t miss out on a chance to ride one of these if you get a chance.

We have added an all new entry level Summit called the Everest 600.  This is the 597 cc engine that is already a legend in the MXZ TNT platform.  A great power-to-weight ratio and a great value-to-wallet ratio to go with it.  Check out the pricing on this sled.

The last major change is the addition of a 163 Everest 800 that now gives the Fall crowd 3 track choices in the popular Everest platform.

In a year where no changes would still leave the competition light years behind, the ‘Doo boys have just landed another haymaker on the industry.  Just keep ‘Doo’ing it!

Unofficially One More Summit ?

Hey, I wanna talk about the new 1200 MXZ a bit.  We are seeing some surprising interest in this model from the high end testosterone crowd early in the Spring program.  Think about it boys.  Team Yamaha is jumping all over the all new lighter is better Nytro this year, bolting on a Turbo and setting their world on fire, proclaiming world domination.  Well, they’ve had alot of practice patting themselves on the back lately and hey, they deserve it.  Boosted Yamaha’s with proper suspension set-up are a sight to behold, but like when the first car was built, someone built another and together they were drawn together in competition.  At Club ‘Doo, we saw an MXZX 1200 on a digital scale with a Yamaha Nytro short skid.  Two things stuck out like a sore thumb:  A Rotax 130 H.P. four stroke with identical H.P. but more torque and a combined weight of 42 lbs. lighter sled than the Yamaha.  Noted aftermarket shops like Racer’s Edge and Specialty Sleds are gonna be all over that like pine cones on a bear’s butt.  Is this motor gonna be rock solid?  Hell yeah!  From what we are told, Rotax builds two four-stroke engines to every one two-stroke engine.  These guys have been doing it in their sleep for years for not only Ski-Doo, Can Am and Sea Doo, but also BMW, Aprillia and Buell (a subsiduary of Harley Davidson).  I’m betting it’s going to get alot quieter out there as the competition takes notice.

Got Rebate?

It appears there are still a few clones who haven’t received their “Gear Up & Go” $250 rebate from the spring/fall season.  If you haven’t received your BRP rebate cheque, then you need to check into it and see that it has or is being processed.  Call the number on your rebate form and have all your paperwork ready when calling and please let us know if you are experiencing any problems getting your money.

Don’t Jump On The Bus ...

For customers that use Greyhound to send us back parts, etc., we want you to call us before you do.  We have recently lost our closest depot in Vulcan and now are receiving parcels at different depots in a 100 km. radius which logistically is not great for us.  The Vulcan depot is in limbo right now until further notice or another business takes it on, which Greyhound says is in the works as we speak.  Thanks for your patience.

The Big Dogs Talk ...

All Ski-Doo dealerships recently received a video presentation via the web from Bob Lumley, Director of North American Sales, BRP Recreational Division.  The content of the video was an overview of the product line-up and the problems we experienced this season and a list of solutions implemented for our 2009 Summit line.  As a dealer, it is reassuring to know that upper management has acknowledged the concerns and is taking the appropriate action to rectify the situation.  The best product and trouble-free riding?  What a concept.

Spring Fever Was A Success ...

Once again, the clones stepped up to the plate and showed us the love as we are 80% sold out on the spring promo.  Hey, we knew it was going to be tough to match last years totals with this years reinvention of the snowmobile, but this year was a shock when you take into consideration the sheer volume of people riding XP’s this year and some of the well documented first year glitches we saw this winter.  With Ski-Doo’s committment to excellence for next year and a reasonably successful fall sales season, expect to see your dealer on the hill riding again next winter.  Isn’t that what it’s all about?

It’s May 1st and We’re Back To Summer Hours ...

If your new to clone nation, then you’re probably not aware of our summer slow down period we call “summer hours”.  Because a snowmobile only dealer needs snow to operate, you can only imagine how the phone quits ringing as spring gets into full swing.  Although we don’t have the shop open through the summer, we do still return phone calls and e-mails daily and will meet you at the shop if the need arises.  We will be doing our other full time job which is operating a large grain farming operation and will re-open full time right after the September Labor Day weekend.  So, until then, have a great summer and we’ll see you next fall.

That’s it for this week.

I’m out.

Ken
