Silvio Baceda and
Pierina Mosna Baceda

Taken from "Our Treasured Heritage-
A History of Coalhurst and District
Pages 245 - 246
by Lena Marshall

Dad was born in 1889 in the village of Cavedini, Trento, Italy.
In his early teens he journeyed to America, working in a
gold mine in Sacramento, California for a few years. Later he
decided to move to Lethbridge, where his brother Joe was
residing. Here he was employed at the Chester Mine.

In 1923, he returned to Italy to marry the apple of his eye,
Pierina Mosna, who was born in Romagnano, Austria in 1881.
After their marriage on December 23, 1923 they came to
Lethbridge, arriving March of 1924. He returned to work in
the Chester Mine. In 1925 they moved Coalhurst where
Dad worked in the mine. They lived in one of the company
houses for a few years, until he saw fit to build a house of
their own, which was situated next to the Lethbridge
Northern Irrigation Ditch. He worked in the Coalhurst Mine
until the time of the terrible explosion, which forced the
closure of the mine. In 1940 they moved to Lethbridge
where he went to work in the No. 8 mine and worked there
until his retirement in 1952.

Dad was blessed with thirty years of retirement doing the
things that he enjoyed most. These included working in his
garden in which he took much pride; spending a few hours
now and again playing cards at the Miner's Library of
which he was a lifetime member, and his greatest pleasure
of all, being able to spend time with his family.

Dad and mother celebrated their 50th Wedding
Anniversary December 23, 1973 with their family
and friends.

Dad and Mother had a long happy life together. Dad passed
away suddenly on February 17, 1982. Mother had been in poor
health most of 1983 and passed away December 10, 1983.

They were blessed with three children.
