Bryan Baker and
Virginia (Proctor) Baker and
Melba (Wilde) (Ackroyd) Baker

Wagon Trails and Ditches - Welling
pages 153 - 154

Bryan was born 20 Feb 1915 at Bicknell, Utah and came
to Canada at age four with his parents to Glenwood. In
1919 the Baker family moved to Welling where his father,
Philip had purchased land on Section 2 T7 R21. He
attended the Community School near the farm and went
to Raymond to High School and to the Raymond
Agriculture College.

Bryan and his brother Roscoe managed the family farm
through the '30's. In 1945 Roscoe and his family
moved to British Columbia so his brother, Ken, farmed
with him from 1949 until 1956. In 1958, Bryan bought
the family farm from the estate and expanded his
operation by getting into the cattle feeding business.
He also bought more land around the area of Raymond.
His operation grew and by 1967 it was incorporated
into the Baker Land and Cattle Co. Ltd. In 1961 Bryan
began to expand again into several enterprises in
Lethbridge.

Bryan married Virginia Proctor of Stirling.
Bryan and Virginia lived in Raymond
from 1942 to 1948 then to Lethbridge for two years
before settling out on the farm in 1950.

Virginia passed away in 1977. Bryan remarried Melba
Wilde Ackroyd in 1978.
