MARY'S GENEALOGY TREASURES
Among the early residents of Spring Coulee were
Mr. & Mrs. Lewis Peter Baptiste and their family of
seven children.
Mr. & Mrs. Baptiste were married May 24, 1886
in Morgan County, lilinois. where they resided until
1910. They moved to Albena and at first engaged
in farming. During the years they lived in Spring
Coulee. Mr. & Mrs. Baptiste operated the hotel for
a time. Some time later they moved to Bassano-Empress
district where they lived until 1924.
In 1924 - Mr. Baptiste gave up farming and moved to
the Little Red Deer District west of Innisfail. As a
young man, Mr. Baptiste had served for three years
in the ministry and he now returned to this work
under the auspices of the Church of The Nazarene.
From 1929 to 1936 Mr. Baptiste travelled Alberta and
Saskatchewan as a colporteur and estimated that
during these years he delivered 75,000 pieces of
religious literature directly to the people's homes.
In 1936 after moving to Lethbridge, Mr. & Mrs. Baptiste
celebrated their golden wedding anniversary and in
1946 they celebrated their diamond wedding
anniversary in the same city.
Mrs. Baptiste passed away in 1947 and in 1948
Mr. Baptiste moved to Calgary where he passed
away in 1950.
At the time of his passing, Mr. Baptiste was survived
by 5 sons and one daughter who for many years
resided in Spring Coulee.
