Tales and Trails - A History of Longview
and Surrounding Area

Margaret MacEwan, a Scottish lass, came to Canada and resided in Calgary as a tailoress and dressmaker. She met the U. G. Hartwick's in DeWinton and later came to help Mrs. Grant Hartwick, Sr. She met Mr. James Black at a church service at Big Hill School. In September 1914 they were married at the Hartwick home. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Weidenhammer were their attendants.

"Meg" as affectionately called by her husband, had four children. Mrs. Black took ill with the "flu" after the birth of her youngest daughter and died leaving her small family.

Mr. James Black was born in Wisha, Scotland, in 1873 and passed away in Calgary on October 24th, 1972. Interment was in the Highwood Cemetery, High River beside his wife.
