Lloyd Dayley and Elsie (Nielson) Dayley

Pinepound Reflections - A History of
Spring Coulee and District page 234

by Ruth Plunet

Grandma and Grandpa Nielson were born in Malmo,
Sweden. Orignially they went to the United States
by boat but soon after decided to emigrate to Canada
travelling by covered wagon directly to Cardston, Alberta.

They had ten children, one of whom died before they
reached Canada.

My mother Elsie was the oldest daughter and was born
in Cardston in 1891. She would later marry Lloyd Dayley
and have three children, Lynn, Rex and myself (Ruth).

My parents later separated and my mother, brother and
I moved to our new home in Spring Coulee. Elsie was a
haridresser and ran the local hotel in which we lived.
Elsie's sister Leah, also lived at the hotel for a short time
after marrying the local barber Billy Jones.

I have many happy memories of the good times we had
living in Spring Coulee. Swimming in the canal and river,
playing softball and of course dances with my best friend
Lillian. The dances were the highlights of my life in those
days.

Elsie passed away in December 1987 at the grand
age of 95 years.

Rex was living in Nanaimo until he passed away in
1981.
