LETHBRIDGE, ALBERTA, TUESDAY,
DECEMBER 10, 1935
DECEMBER HAS BEEN MONTH OF DISASTERS
Year Ago Devastating Fire Swept Coalhurst's Business Area

December has proven to be a month of disaster for the
mining town of Coalhurst. On December 19, one year and
10 days from the date of Monday's multiple fatalities, a
considerable portion of the business district was destroyed
in a devastating fire during a cold winter night. That evening
a large shipment of Christmas mail had arrived from Europe and
many families went without Yuletide gifts and greetings.

Heads of Coalhurst's five or six stores conferred on Tuesday
morning. The Board of Trade passed out of existence some
years ago, but merchants, together with the hotel-man, garage
owner and others have determined to send a delegation to
Premier Wm. Aberhart, asking advice.

Many merchants have been in business in Coalhurst since the
mine was started about 1911 or 1912, Last December the post
office, pool room and confectionery were destroyed by fire.
