Bill and Jennie Gorda

Taken from "Our Treasured Heritage-
A History of Coalhurst and District
Page 346

by Mrs. Harry Gorda

Bill and Jennie Gorda and their family of three boys
arrived in Coalhurst in the year of 1925 from Shell Valley,
Manitoba. They had homesteaded in Shell Valley and
decided to come to Coalhurst so that Bill could work
in the Coalhurst mine. Two children were born to them
while living in Coalhurst. All the children attended
primary school in Coalhurst. Mr. Gorda was injured in the
mine and was unable to continue coal mining.

After the mine explosion in Coalhurst (1935), most families
in Coalhurst moved to other communities. The Gorda family
moved to Lethbridge.

Bill Gorda died in August 1982 in Edmonton at the age of 94.
Jennie Gorda died Christmas Day, December 25, 1970 in
Lethbridge at the age of 84.
