Water Works Wonders
A History of the White, Wilson,
McMahon, River Junction
School Districts Page 328
By Kathleen Alberta Hadlington

My father was born on Jan. 6, 1890 at Wollescote, Worcestershire,
England and came to Canada in 1911 to Bow Island. My mother
was born on Dec. 28, 1893 at Stourbridge, Worcestershire,
England and came to Canada in 1919 to Lethbridge.

They were married on may 21, 1919 and celebrated their 50th
Anniversary in 1969. My father's first job upon arriving was
walking the gas line, but in 1912 the family moved to
Lethbridge where he obtained employment with the City,
working at Galt Gardens and Henderson Lake planting trees,
shrubs, flowers and cutting grass.

In 1920 my Dad and Mom purchased land in the White School
district from the C.P.R. My Uncle George and Aunt Harriet lived
at the adjoining farm so they formed a partnership which was
known as "Hadlington Bros.". In the '30's Hadlington Bros.
placed first at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto with a sample
of "Reward" wheat.

The partnership was dissolved in the late '30's and my father
continued farming on his own. In 1965 my parents moved to
Lethbridge where they enjoyed their later years.
