Hans Marquardson Family

by Hubert Marquardson
"Stirling - Its story and People" pages 29 - 30

Hans Marquardson was born in Snarup,
Svendborg, Denmark, August 23, 1841. He joined
the L.D.S. Church in 1861. In 1863, along with his
brother, Rasmus Peder, his stepfather, Mads Jensen,
and his mother, Karen Peder Jensen, came to Amer-
ica on the ship S . S . Kimball. They proceeded to Utah
in Captain John Murdoch's train of immigrants al-
most immediately, as civil war was raging, and they
were advised to leave. A short time was spent in Salt
Lake City, and then the family moved to Fillmore.
Records are somewhat hazy about Hans at this time,
but it is understood that he spent some time as a
stage-coach driver in Nevada, and then returned to
Fillmore until 1899. His wife was Caroline Madsen.

Hans arrived in Stirling in the spring of 1899.
