Joseph William Jacobs and
Sarah (Powell) Jacobs

by Jack Chalmers

My grandfather Joseph William Jacobs, 3rd child
of John "S" Jacobs and Sarah Jane Sabey, was born
in Wallsburg, Wasatch, Utah 28 Sep. 1880.

In 1900 he and his wife Sarah Powell, along with his
younger brother 16 year old James Sabey Jacobs,
came in the second migration to Magrath, Alberta,
Canada; where he established an 80 acre homestead
a few miles north of Magrath in what became known
as the Lehi District. This was because he and a
number of others around him had come from Lehi,
Utah.

Until he left the farm, all his farming was done by
horse.

At first they lived in a sod house, later he became the
first person to build a wooden house north of Magrath.
They remained there until 1952, when they moved to
a home in the Town of Magrath, where for the first
time they had electricity, indoor plumbing, etc.

They were well known in the area for their garden and
for their flower garden.
