Katharina Wagner Hirsche

by Hortense L. Hirsche
"Stirling - Its Story and People" page 28

Johannes Hirsche was born October 4, 1832, in
Hirschorn Ct. Bern, Switzerland. He married Kath-
arina Wagner March 15, 1863. Later they went to
the Endowment House, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born September 8, 1834, in Kaltenbach,
Thughury, Switzerland. Johannes Hirsche and fam-
ily lived in Mount Pleasant, Utah, where he died and
was buried in 1891.

In 1899 Katharina, now a widow, with her two
sons Alfred and Samuel Hirsche, and her married
daughter Mary, (with her husband James C. Chris-
tensen and their four children) boarded the first train
sent by the L.D.S. Church to Stirling, Alberta,
N . W. T., Canada .

William George (Will) came later as did John
when he was released from his mission in Switzer-
land.

They first lived in a tent, then in one of the six
houses built by the church.

Katharina Hirsche died June 28, 1904. and is buried in
Stirling, Alberta. She had lived in Stirling only five years,
but she has truly left a great heritage in our Alberta.
