Johannes Hirsche was born October 4, 1832, in Hirschorn Ct. Bern, Switzerland. He married Katharina Wagner March 15, 1863. Later they went to the Endowment House, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born September 8, 1834, in Kaltenbach, Thughury, Switzerland. Johannes Hirsche and family lived in Mount Pleasant, Utah, where he died and was buried in 1891.
In 1899 Katharina, now a widow, with her two sons Alfred and Samuel Hirsche, and her married daughter Mary, (with her husband James C. Christensen and their four children) boarded the first train sent by the L.D.S. Church to Stirling, Alberta, N.W.T., Canada.

They first lived in a tent, then in one of the six houses built by the church.
