Peter and Anne Melling

Peter and Anne Melling with their children, four sons
and one daughter, arrived in Coalhurst in 1912 from
Wigan, Lancashire, England. Peter Sr. and one son
were employed by the Imperial Coal Co. (Coalhurst Mine).

In 1918, they moved to Evansburg, Alberta where
Peter Sr. took the position of pit boss at the Evansburg
Collieries. His son worked in the Machine shop and
later as a fire boss. He was also a member of the mine
rescue team.

The first two sons left to study at the University of Alberta,
from which they graduated as medical doctors.
They practiced for many years, mainly in Alberta.

After the mine closed, Peter and Anne Melling and
one son moved to Medicine Hat and returned
to Coalhurst in 1926.

The third son taught school in Coalhurst before
entering the medical program at the University of
Alberta. After graduating, he practiced for many
years in Alberta.

Peter and Anne Melling moved to Lethbridge in 1937.

Anne Melling passed away in 1939. Peter Melling
passed away in 1949.
