A History of Coalhurst and District

My father was born in the village of Cavedine,
Trento, Italy in 1879.

In his early years he immigrated to America to
work in the mines in Pennsylvania, U.S.A.
In 1901 he journeyed to Lethbridge and worked
in the No. 3 and later in the Taber mine.

December of 1906 my mother, Marie Cattoni who
was bom in Cavedine, Trento, Italy journeyed to
Lethbridge and they were married January 7, 1907
in St. Aloyious Catholic Church, making their home
in Taber until 1911. They then moved to Coalhurst
where father obtained employment with the mine. In
1919, he decided to move to Nanaimo, B.C. where
he continued to work in the mines.

March of 1929 they returned to Coalhurst and purchased
the Robert Stewart farm and went into market
gardening in which they took much pride.

After a lengthy illness, Dad passed away on April 19,
1939. Mother continued to live on the farm until her
death on May 5, 1954.

There were four children, Yolanda and Carl are
both deceased.
