Ernest Schaffer and
Virginia Young Schaffer

Water Works Wonders
A History of the White, Wilson, McMahon,
River Junction School Districts Page 428

Ernest was born in Berne Switzerland in 1887 and moved,
with his family, to Stirling in 1899. He homesteaded north
of Warner from 1908 to 1920. In 1919 he married Virginia
Yoimg, and in 1921 he moved to the Lethbridge area where
he farmed three miles south of White School and another
farm south of Lethbridge airport. His two nephews, Grant
Schaffer and Jay Schaffer resided on the farm and went to
White School in 1941 and 1942. They both later served in
the armed forces. Ernest and Virginia had no family. They
sold the farm in 1953 and retired to Lethbridge. Ernest
died in 1973 and Virginia in 1990 at the age of 91.

One of his pleasures was to go out after supper and
work with the HD7 Allis Chalmers crawler tractor.
