MARY'S GENEALOGY TREASURES
Tinous Thies was born January 1889 in Denmark,
the son of Christian and Stena Thiesen. They later
changed their name to Thies when they came to the
United States. He spent his early years in North and
South Dakota. He was full of mischief and loved to
tease. He was always a hard worker. Tinous was a big
handsome man but never married. He was very fond of
his sister Kristina Anderson and moved to Spring Coulee
to be near her in 1915. He bought land in the same area
and farmed it.
He was very close to his sister and fond of her large
family. He was very strict and never openly showed his
love. None of the Anderson kids like to work for him
because he was so strict. He was very protective of his
nieces and nephews. He was a fashionable dresser and
always invested in the best of cars. All his pictures show
women around him, they liked his attention and his cars.
He felt obligated to help to raise the Anderson family.
He came to all the Christmas concerts and any church
or school play the kids had parts in. The popularity
contests his nieces took part in were always an expense
to him as he always helped them win along with their
beauty, ability and talent. He was a beautiful dancer
and won every old time waltz contest he entered, often
dancing with his sister Kristina.
He lost his sister Alma to cancer and he helped all he
could with her surviving eight children who lived in
Montana. During the depression be became very ill
with depression and died in June 1937. This was
one week after Harold's wife Eunice died from their
house fire. He left his farm to his sister Kristina. She
never did get over loosing him as he had played a large
part in her life.
