Nykyfor Kyfa Zmurchyk and
Docia Slemko Zmurchyk

Kyfa Zmurchyk was born on July 5, 1897 in Belleluya,
Sniatyn, Poland. He joined the Polish Army in 1917, and
fought in Italy until the end of the war.

In 1921 he married Docia Slemko, who was also born in
Belleluya in 1903. Kyfa immigrated to Canada, arriving in
Quebec City on September 21, 1923, destined for Coalhurst,
to join his brothers Mike and Andrew, who had been in Canada
since 1908. On arrival in Coalhurst he obtained employment
at the coal mine. His wife Docia followed him arriving in
Quebec City on July 8, 1927 bringing their daughter who was
four years old. In 1928 a son, William was born to Kyfa
and Docia.

After a short illness, Docia passed away in Coathurst April
1929. Their son, William passed away in Coalhurst at
the age of approximately 2 years.

Kyfa was killed in the mine explosion in Coalhurst
December 9, 1935.
