The wonderful boy belongs to Paul and Cindy Schell of Calgary, Alberta. Drayko is a son of Flyer and Taz. And although his name may sound intimidating and he may even look at bit intimidating because of his size, he is any thing but! Below is what his “mom” Cindy had to say:
“Sir Drayko, or as he is called by the family -- Drayko, is an intimidating dog when you first see him come towards you. Reaching 31 inches at the shoulders and approx. 135 pounds he is larger than the average Alaskan Malamute and is just an overall huge dog, but as he approaches you the Alaskan Malamute smile shows that he is a big softy who just wants his butt scratched and to be played with.
My husband and I were very lucky 3 years ago when we were given Sue’s number at Snowventure as we were given more than a pet the day we picked him up…we were given a member of our family (like our child). The last 3 years have been wonderful. Alaskan Malamutes are amazing dogs that are very smart but strong willed and after obedience classes Drayko and I came into an agreement… I am the boss but every once in a while he decides he doesn’t want to listen right away.
Drayko is wonderful with children, as he loves to play with them and run around the back yard making them chase him for the ball. We just have to watch that he doesn’t accidentally run them over when he is playing with them, as he doesn’t realize the strength he has sometimes.

When we first got Drayko we socialized him with other puppies every weekend and it has paid off …Drayko loves other dogs and likes to get them playing. It is not unusual for us to have Drayko, Logan (our Great Pyrenees cross) and their friends over...a Malamute/husky cross, a Golden Retriever, a Shepherd/husky cross and a Rottie cross, all running and playing in the back (approx. 500 pounds worth of dog in one place). Drayko is the Alpha male when the other dogs are around and no one dares to challenge that. We also have 2 cats that rule the dogs, including Drayko, which is funny to see…. a 10-pound cat walk over the dog and then lay beside his head for a nap.

Drayko’s favorite activities include camping, hiking, sledding, going for car rides and chewing stuffed toys.

Both my husband and I agree...We will get another Alaskan malamute in a heart beat!”
