Style Tab: general remarks
The style tab is concerned with the appearance of the plot. This includes the type of projections (equal area vs equal angle), the presence of as background nets and various colours, line widths etc. used to draw the plot. Some of these values concern only the appearance on the screen, and duplicate versions can be found under the the print tab. Line thickness expressed in pixels is an import6ant example of this.

Net On
Cauldron 2 can optionally display a stereographic net (a set of small circles about a pole and a set of great circles though that pole). Checking here turns this on or off. Note this in addition to the possibility of displaying a data point as a 'net'. Hint: net drawing is a slow business, keep this option unchecked while manipulating data.
Net Circles Every
Controls how many circles are plotted in a net. Hint: turn net off when making large adjustments to this value.

Thick Circles Every
Net circles can be thick or thin. A value of 3 here will mean that every 3rd circle will be thick.

Line Segment
Small and great circles are plotted as a series of straight lines, this function changes the length of the straight elements (in degrees). Making this value too small will slow down complicated screen redrawing –especially where nets are involved, and put a strain on printer memory.

Projection
Clicking this button toggles the view used for printing, the paint-box and the clipboard between equal angle and equal area projection. Note that the data does not 'remember' what sort of projection is currently used. There is a single value for the current projection and this is used to refresh the screen or print to a device.

Pole For Net
This gives you three options for the standard net displayed in cauldron (in addition data points can be nets). The traditional 'north -south' net, is provided (but is of little use in the Cauldron context, except as a way of creating paper nets). Secondly the 'up-down net' is useful to read off the dip and direction of structures from the plot rather than the data list. Finally the 'treat the last point as a pole' option allows you to put the net wherever you wish. This lets you read of the angular distance from some chosen pole to your data.

Border Colour
This enables the selection of the colour used to paint the outside of the circle in the paintbox. Note, this is not used for printing (see the print tab for print version).
Circle Colour
Select the colour used to fill the circle used to plot on.
Net Colour
Select the colour used to draw the standard net on a plot.
%Margin
This controls the size of the plot circle within the paint-box. The value chosen is the percentage of the plot left for a margin around the plot.
Line Width
Selects the thickness (in pixels) of the standard (thin) lines. Note that the print function has it's own version of this value.
Thick Lines
Selects the thickness (in pixels) of the thick lines. Note that the print function has it's own version of this value.
Plot Mark Lines
Selects the line thickness used to plot marks. Note that the print function has it's own version of this value.
