INJURY CONTROL

and PREVENTION

home page

Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada

During 1997, approximately 1350 Albertans will die and another 31000 will be hospitalized as the result of an injury. Injury is the leading cause of death of Canadian children and youth, accounting for 30% of all deaths. Among pre-schoolers, injuries claim four times as many lives as does cancer. Among pre-teens and teenagers, they claim more lives than all other causes of death combined.

We are in the midst of an unrecognized INJURY EPIDEMIC which is affecting all members of society, not only the young. Now is the time for individuals, communities and governments to devote time and resources towards stopping this epidemic.

This web-site has been set up to increase awareness of the injury problem and to provide useful and informative links throughout the world to anyone concerned about injuries. Many of these sites provide access to information which is helpful to both the general public and to public health professionals.
