These rifles were manufactured by
Birmingham Small Arms, and were for the civilian market. There were
quite a few different variations of these rifles. They were based
on L.E. Long Lee and ShtLE actions, and came in different grades,
depending on quality of workmanship.
They can be easily identified by the marking on the wrist. It is simply the B.S.A.Co stamp without the Crown, no date or any other markings. The rifle on the right is of higher grade then the basic rifle on the left. BSA Co also did conversions post WW2 of No4 rifles. these rifles started off as regular rifles and were remanufactured and sporterized at the factory. I am collecting pictures of some of these rifles for a display on this page Research links at bottom of page |

| No4 that was sporterized by BSA. It is one of the better grade of conversions. It has a cut down 5 round magazine. | ![]() |
| Picture of above rifle, notice the rear site base was machined off and the receiver tapped for a side mount scope mount. | ![]() |
| Front and rear sites. It is interesting to note that the front site is very similar to the Canadian made EAL front site. | ![]() |
| This is a BSA Co sporter based on the ShtLE. I have very limited information on this rifle | ![]() |
| A fairly fuzzy picture of the rear site of the above rifle. I don't know if its original but I suspect that it may be a replacement. | ![]() |
