Dock Diving

Labrador Breed

In the past labradors were commonly used for retrieving fishing nets from the water.

Don't Leave it Hanging:

To move onto the next round in Big Air, the bumper must be completely knocked down. The height of the jump is measured from the dock to the bumper.

Puppy Progress

Keep your training sessions short - no more than 5 or 10 minutes and make training fun. Lots of praise is important. Catch your dog doing something right!

Dock Diving, the newest sport to Top Dogs! Dog and handler compete in two categories; big air and extreme vertical.

Extreme Vertical:
Like traditional track and field high jump, the bar, or in this case the bumper, starts low and is raised after all competitors have had a turn. With each turn competitors are allowed two attempts to reach
the set height and if they cannot reach the bumper they are eliminated. The last competitor left has the highest jump, and wins the competition.

Big Air works in the same way, except there is no elimination. Every dog is given two jumps, and the dog with the longest jump wins. Watch out though, these dogs are getting wet and making a big splash.

The most common breeds for dock diving are the retrievers, but any dog that loves the water can compete in this sport... from poodles to spaniels. If your dog loves to fetch and loves the water, this is the sport for you.

Make sure you catch this season’s debut of Dock Diving on TOP DOGS March 5 at 7 pm EST. For more information on this and other activities you can do with your dog, click here.
