cops for cancer

On Sunday August 24th, 2000 at 7:00 a.m., 9 police officers and a teacher embarked on the first leg of the Ironman Canada Triathlon competition in Penticton, British Columbia. They formed and founded the COPS for CANCER team.  After a leisurely 3.8 km swim and a scenic 180 km bike ride they finish by running a complete marathon! On top of participating in this physically and mentally grueling event, they succeeded in raising over $40,000 for the battle against cancer!  Two years later, over one hundred police officers and friends from across Canada & the US, all members of the Cops for Cancer team, participated again. Every second year since then the team has competed in the Ironman Canada race and raised over 4.6 million dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society and the fight against cancer.

On August 28, 2012 the team will once again compete in the Ironman Canada Triathlon in Penticton. Now referred to as the Ironteam supporting Cops for Cancer and other cancer charities.

Help us fight Cancer

We are proud to announce that the Ironteam is celebrating more than 10 years of fundraising and support. Some team members have been around since the conception of the team and many new faces have joined along the way. A foundation was set 10 years ago and we have continued to grow. Kerry Nisbet remembers the first meeting in 1999…"It all started with an idea over a cup of coffee ….Now we are at $4.6 million raised to date!!” Our 10th fundraising year has kicked off with a great start!!  We are now starting a new campaign for the 2012 race and are looking for your help.
