Berend is now five months old and it is stunning to see how he has moved from a helpless little one who was not even able to move his head from left to right into this alert and active little explorer who looks, grabs, babbles, and shrieks in delight. He can do all sorts of tricks right now and he is doing more and more by the day. It is a wonderful for his parents to see him grow and learn how to use his eyes, hands, legs and all the rest, too.
At this solstice he has begun to eat solid food, like rice cereal, bananas, applesauce, and potato. He does all sorts of impressive things with his little hands, like spinning his rattle and holding his bottle, and he smiles broadly at everybody who is prepared to spend five seconds with him. He spends much of his day chattering away in baby-talk, and happily answers in burbles and coos if you ask him a question. He loves to BBQ and to spend time outside, which is not really so surprising considering that he is a true Canadian.
