Meet the Artist - Rae Hunter

Hello, I'm Rae Hunter. I live in Lindbrook, Alberta, with my husband/partner David Belke. We play under the name 'Sundogs and Northern Lights Studios,' using renewable, recycled resources to create and instruct environmentally friendly crafts. I use willow, garden plants and weeds, grasses, bulrush and cattail, bark, rocks, paper, antlers, wire, hair and bones to weave and create traditional and contemporary baskets, sculptural forms, birdhouses, bassinets and jewellry.

David specializes in willow furniture. He custom designs beds, tables, mirrors and garden structures. We also teach our respective crafts at the Devonian Gardens near Edmonton, Alberta. We believe that shared experience, knowledge, and the creation of our products all present opportunities for an awareness that "what we do for the earth, we do for ourselves and our families to ensure a more stable system now, and in the future."

My works may be seen in the following Edmonton area galleries:

  • Generations Gallery, Stony Plain, Alberta
  • Art Beat Gallery, St. Albert, Alberta
  • Gallery de Jonge, Stony Plain, Alberta

We are also involved with the Land Stewardship Resource Centre and their Round River General Store. Check them out at:
