Crystal Lake Clean Up

On Sat May 14 from approx 12 noon till 5 pm, 10 Wapiti Whitewater Kayakers volunteers helped clean up the high visibility areas, and areas in the immediate vicinity of the bird viewing platforms. Some got carried away and went almost around the entire lake :-). Way to go Eric.

Thanks to the following in no particular order: Geoff, Gloria, Tyler, Brad, Bruce, Eric, Judy, Sarah, Daniel, Rob (the usual hardworking group……)

We noticed that compared to last year, the overall the area was much cleaner, but with higher water levels it was harder to clean up. There was more evidence of liquor consumption and as usual the plastic doggie bags comprised quite a bit of the mess. In front of the bird blind we cleared out the half rotten and dismantled raft, floating in the water. That was an eyesore that has been there for many years.

Interesting Stats:

  • Most Gross things found- too gross to mention, but there were blood suckers jumping off my canoe and still alive in my drive way several hours later.
  • Largest objects found- half rotten wooden platform in front of the bird blind. Tie for second was the inflatable kayak and the kiddie pool Eric was throwing across the lake.
  • Most Valuable find- nothing this year to beat the leatherman found last year.
  • Most Mysterious Object- the black case. When opened it did not contain $1,000,0000.

A reminder to other club members to please come out and help at future events. While this event helps raise money and subsidies your indoor pool sessions, and provides funding to repair and replace gear, and is good for the environment, it also provides a social aspect in meeting and making new friends. This is an important part of all clubs.
