Area Overview
The Village of Bentley was originally called Oxford, and was located 1.6 km north of the present site. It was soon relocated to where it stands today, and was renamed Bentley in honour of an early homesteader. The first settlers came from the U.S. and either walked or drove oxen from Lacombe, which was the closest railroad station during 1888-1890. The first church was built in 1890 by the Methodists, and a schoolhouse was built in 1903.

Bentley was incorporated as a village in 1906, and celebrated its 75th Anniversary in 1990. Today, Bentley is a thriving village of 930 people.

Location
The Village of Bentley is located in the County of Lacombe No. 14, in central Alberta. It is 20 km west of Lacombe, 40 km northwest of Red Deer and 142 km southwest of Edmonton.
