To Whom it May Concern

This is an open invitation to all concerned professionals and researchers interested in the seismicity induced by man-made activities.

Environmental Concern: Reservoir Induced Seismicity (RIS).

Significant interest on environmental concerns of hydro development is noted world wide sometimes associated with "against dams movements." Increased interest on structuring environmental sustainability is expected, i.e.: by the joint initiative of IUCN (The World Conservation Union) and the World Bank reviews to increases the effectiveness of dams contribution to an enhanced sustainable development.

The "Millennium" project is dedicated to the specific hydro's environmental concern of RIS by information distribution for increase the awareness and update the former ICOLD world wide survey developed in the early eighties.

An update on some RIS concerns (Resurge of RIS)and an updated questionnaire (Survey on RIS)used to identify the potential risks of RIS. Monitoring of seismic events is an accepted practice of importance mostly for dam safety issues but with less application for mitigation of risks.

This very brief information is intended to be kept as an initial resource to be used for Environmental Impact Assessment procedures and potential developers of new reservoirs and operators of dams associated with past RIS events. Any distribution of this material is appreciated. For specific services provided for RIS are in CISRG Services page

Thanks for your attention,

Best regards,

Dr. Thomas Vladut, P.Eng.
