Linda Kubke was born in Cichostow, Poland on March 2, 1929 to Rudolf and Wilhelmine Liebrentz. She had four sisters and three brothers and lived in a German farming community. Life on the farm was hard; by the time she was five, Linda had to learn how to make soup, take the cows out to pasture, and deal with the death of her younger brother Ludwig. Linda continued to work hard all her life, doing her very best in all she undertook. She earned good marks in school, helped with all the household chores, and picked blueberries without getting a single leaf in the bucket. Linda loved to read, but it was hard finding time for such a luxury. World War II started when Linda was ten years old. She was prevented from crossing over into Germany and spent her adolescence in Poland, running from the invading Russian armies. After the war was over, she worked as a bookkeeper and in 1956 was able to join Phillip, Lucie, and her mother in East Germany. Phillip worked tirelessly for five years to get her out of Poland. Linda immigrated to Canada in 1957 and married Eduard Kubke on March 16, 1957. Together they had three girls: Rita, Evie, and Rose . In 1977, Ed and Linda bought some land in the Shuswap and together they created a garden paradise. They had cherries, plums, apples, pears and even peaches! Linda loved the Shuswap and would live over half of the year in British Columbia until the birth of Aydan in 2003. For the last three years, Linda spent two months in Shuswap and the other ten months dancing and playing with Aydan, just as she did with Ludwig over 70 years ago. We love you, Linda. You are in our hearts forever. May God wipe every tear from your eyes and may He wrap you in His loving arms. God bless you! |

Our family circle has been broken,
A link gone from our chain;
But though we're parted for a while,
We know we'll meet again.
Some day, we know not when,
We shall meet in a better land
And never part again.
We shall meet with many a loved one
That was torn from our embrace,
We shall listen to their voices,
And behold them face to face.
Sunshine passes, shadows fall,
Love's remembrance outlasts all.
