Accent Studies # 4

Here is another accent exercise that can be used as a powerful beat when it is mastered. It combines #6 and #3 from Accent Studies #1 in the first half, and #5 and#3 in the second half. This exercise should be practiced with a metronome at a slow speed in the beginning. (Gradually increase speed as technique improves).
  • Sticking should be "HAND to HAND". eg: RLRLRLRL
  • Hands should be closed on the sticks to allow wrist rotation.
  • ACCENTED NOTES (should be a full 90 degree stroke).
  • UNACCENTED NOTES (sticks should only lift 2 to 3 inches).
  • Unaccented notes should be very quiet.

Add Bass Drum and Hi-Hat.
Move accented notes to Tom #1 and Tom #2.
Alternate beat...Right hand-Tom #2, Left hand-Tom #1.
