Links

These are just some of the interesting pages I've come across during my travels on the internet.

Games:

The Zone at MSN: A good place to get interesting, free games as well as play retail games online.

- a good place for more traditional board and puzzle games.

The Underdogs - the best place online to get out-of-print game titles and abandoneware. Tons of games!

The Games Workshop - the home base of the fantasy war battle game, Warhammer (of which you've probably noticed I'm a fan!) as well as other war games. Check out my Warhammer site for more links.

Music:

CDNow: One of the best places I've found to get music that's not mainstream.

Dave Matthews Band - Of course I have to have a link to my favorite group! :) Here you will find nearly everything you need to know about the band, including tour dates, albums, bios and real-time set lists from their concerts.

David Gray - It naturally follows that another Dave should appear on here (Since he's supported by Dave Matthews!). He's also one of my favorite artists of late. Check out his page for more information. He's only doing tours in the UK for now, but with any luck, he'll come over here and visit us soon!

Books/Authors:

Chapters.ca - a Canadian based store that offers books, music, software and gift items.

Barnes & Noble.com - a US based store that offers everything listed above.

Ian Rankin - I'm not a big mystery reader, but when it comes to detective work and crime solving, Ian Rankin's series following Inspector Rebus on his various assignments have to be the best stories I've read. Rankin's a fairly new author on the scene, at least over here in North America. His books have been well-known in Britian for a long while. A mini-series is currently being filmed that some PBS stations are carrying (alas, not the one I get!).

Marion Zimmer Bradly - the first fantasy author I ever read and undoubtedly one of the best. Her Mists of Avalon series is her best known works, which is probably why now it's not only a mini-series but a series of games as well :).

Jack Whyte- Whyte is also a fairly new author for me, but has impressed me greatly with the two books that I've read. His main series, the Dream of Eagles (published as the Cumulod Chronicles in the US) ,is yet another take on Arthurian legend, yet told from a perspective that is entirely unique to anything else I've read.

Jennifer Roberson - A long-time favorite, though I've only read her "Sword" series, which comprises 5 books and one on the way early next year. They are very entertaining and focuses on the relationship and adventures of a male and female sword fighter. Her other famous series, "Chronicles of Cheysuli", is one which I hope to start soon.

Micheal Stackpole - Yet another new author to me, but one that has impressed me so far. I've only read "Once a Hero" (a stand-alone book currently out-of-print), but a neat book that attempts to tell a story spanning 500 years. No mean feat! His other works include novels in the Battletech series, Star Wars,,

Misc/Things of Interest:

Shared Wisdom - website of the author/scientist Hank Wesselman whose current trilogy of books explores the human condition, connection with the universe and shamanic wisdom. One of the most fascinating pieces of work I've read.

The Crocodile Hunter - my favorite TV program! Steve Irwin has to be the most insane and enthusiatic person I've ever seen. He and his wife Terri have taught me a lot of things about the creatures of the world and also ways to preserve and protect them.

Junkyard Wars - another one of my favorite TV programs of late! My favorites are the British-based episodes, but the US ones are quite enjoyable as well.

The Oxford Bar - yes, it's the website for one of the most famous bars in Edinbourgh. Favorite haunt of the fictional character John Rebus, a detective whose adventures I've been throughly enjoying through the series by Ian Rankin. This site has links to Edinbourgh travel, history as well as tons of information about the bar, of course! :)
