Commanded by Scott MacNaughton

This is something of a side project for me. I haven't collected more than a handful of miniatures for this army yet, or even attempted to field it using proxy models. Regardless, I'm quite excited about this army and wanted to get a page rolling for it. Now, to explain how this idea got started: during a brief exposure to the Empire army book, I became fascinated by the detachment rules and some of the unit selections. I'd also been interested in painting up a few good old fashioned knights, so I saw a real opportunity.

I also intend this army as an experiment of sorts. Most Empire players seem to rely heavily (almost exclusively, in some cases) on artillery and handguns. Not being a big gunpowder fan, I wanted to see if it was possible to successfully field an Empire army without it. Instead, I want to try to take greater advantage of the detachment options and powerful knights. Hence my decision to call this a Templar army, as it will be comprised of knights and their retainers rather than state troops. What I've basically ended up with is Bretonnians without the lance formation (or silly helmets), but benefitting from cheaper troop costs and the ability to utilize full plate armor.

Why the Knights Griffon, you ask? I can offer no better reason than liking the colour scheme (green and gold), plus the name sounded good. There were no other factors behind the choice. There were special rules released a while back, but I won't be using them as they're not official (to the best of my knowledge) and make the knights far too expensive. Admittedly, the ability to reform and still move is a powerful one, but definitely isn't worth almost 40 points per knight!

Given this army is still entirely theoretical, I of course can't offer any battle reports or honestly viable tactics, but preliminary army lists and a few miniature pictures are posted for viewing. Having this site up and running should encourage me to start collecting sooner rather than later though. In fact, I intend to make this my next project. Units for my Tzeentch army won't be released for some time yet, so I'll be filling in the gap with Empire. Therefore, proper content should hopefully be forthcoming in the not too ridiculously distant future.
