It seems the dice were with me today. All the horrible luck I encountered in my last battle completely reversed, and everything in my army worked darned near perfectly. In fact, had it not been for the actions of a pesky units of Clanrats in the final turns, I wouldn't have yielded a single victory point to my opponent. I won't pretend this was a victory achieved through tactical superiority - it was luck, plain and simple. I didn't fail a single animosity roll in the entire battle. I took out an entire unit of Rat Swarms with Fanatics. My Doom Diver scored a direct hit every time it was fired. Not only did my Squig Herd not flee, it never took a single casualty. I got at least one spell off successfully each turn. I killed a Ratling Gun team with shortbows. Shortbows! I certainly don't expect things to go so smoothly on a regular basis. In fact, I'd be stunned if something like this ever happens again. Luck aside, I think the list I fielded worked pretty darned well. I had a fair bit of luck with a very similar list a few weeks ago, so I suspect I'll be sticking with this format for a while. The Squigs will probably get swapped out for Boar Boyz when fighting the Undead though, as they're far too susceptible to the effects of fear. The pair of Level 2 Shamans are definitely a keeper though, as I've consistently been able to pummel my opponents in the magic phase. |
