This was meant to be a quick skirmish match. As it turns out, a small skirmish doesn't really take much less time than a full scale battle, particularly when you have to spend half your time interpreting the rules. I won't beat about the bush here - the skirmish rules at the back of the Warhammer manual are severely underdeveloped and badly, badly in need of improvement. We came up with a number of potential improvements during the course of the match, and intend to test them out in future engagements. Once this site has an appropriate place for it, I may post an article outlining our proposed rule changes and additions. There's really not too much to say about the battle itself. I basically won through a combination of numbers and ridiculously lucky rolls, so I can't tell you about any tactically masterful manuevers, etc (not that I can normally do that anyhow!). Troop dispositions are listed below. And before anyone emails me about illegal unit sizes, please recall that this was a skirmish engagement. There are no units, only individual models, so unit size limits can't really be applied. I did limit the number of Big 'Uns to equal or less than the number of normal Orcs though, as that only seemed reasonable. |
