Battle Report: August 4, 2002
Opponent: Vampire Counts
Army Size: 1000 Points
Engagement Type: Breakthrough
Result: Victory

This was a mighty near thing - my opponent was a mere 30 points short of a win. Had we read the scenario a bit more closely, I suspect the result would have been a bit different. We managed to overlook the fact that characters don't count towards the victory point total! In retrospect though, that rule does make a great deal of sense. Without it, what's to stop your opponent from sitting about for five turns then slipping Archaon behind your lines at the last moment and claiming a victory?

My first experience with Spear Chukkas wasn't an especially positive one, but I have to consider that virtually all my opponent's units were skirmishers and therefore not optimal targets for a bolt thrower. The most significant conclusion I drew from this engagement, regardless of my success, is that Greenskins are definitely not meant to be a defensive army. I might be saying otherwise had my war machines performed a bit better, but overall I think my units just lack the necessary reliability to perform well as defenders.

One of these days, my Big 'Uns are going to get into combat during the first four turns of a battle!
